Isn't it hard to believe that he would have been that age had he lived? His influence hasn't waned after all these years, despite his tragically early death and the few films he made. I once read that someone who knew Jimmy described him as "a little boy lost", which seems appropriate in a lot of ways. Dean lost his mother at a young age, and his father, unable to cope with the situation financially and emotionally. sent his son to live with relatives, never imagining the psychological damage the boy suffered as result, despite his love for his other family members. His interest in method acting during the time when it was just beginning to be embraced seemed to label the aspiring actor as strange when he first came to Hollywood from New York (he was born in Fairmount, Indiana, which is also where he is buried). Chameleon-like, depending on whom he was around, have led to having him described generally one extreme or the other - but there's no doubt that he was fascinating, talented, and had a touching vulnerability. The loss of Pier Angeli, who, according to many close to him, was the great love of his life to another man was something that he never really recovered from. There is also speculation that Jimmy knew his life would end prematurely as the result of a car accident - although this did not stop him from being reckless on the highway. Duran Duran's "Come Undone" was the perfect tune to sum him up and the clips from his three great films - "East Of Eden" (1954), "Rebel Without A Cause" (1955) and "Giant" (1956), as well as a screentest about Rebel and a TV spot to promote it makes this video very special to me.
